About Glen Ridge High School
Our goal is to create an
environment which fosters and promotes high academic achievement by
providing an atmosphere for individual growth and development and by
building upon student success.
The school will have a strong
research base, encouraging students to gather information, make appropriate
judgements on the information and then use it in the most authentic ways
possible. Students will also get a firm foundation in the arts taught by
specialists and incorporated into their classroom learning.
Education is a mutual
responsibility shared cooperatively by parents, teachers and students.
School procedures need the support of all three components to be effective.
School
The School system is viewed as the center of an
active community. Close interaction between the school and the home is a
characteristic of the Glen Ridge
School District. Students
understand and value their educational experience as an opportunity to
prepare for the most competitive colleges and universities. Glen
Ridge High School
has been repeatedly cited by New Jersey Monthly Magazine as one of the
"Top 10 Public High Schools in New Jersey."
Students
The student profile is similar
to that of a private school. The high achieving motivated students follow a
rigorous college preparatory curriculum. Glen
Ridge students score well above
state and national averages on all standardized tests. Glen
Ridge students actively
participate in a host of activities, with a majority involved in clubs,
organizations and interscholastic sports. The Marching Band and Color Guard
are organizations which allow students the opportunity to perform in
numerous competitions and band festivals. Students participate in twenty
varsity athletic teams. The Student Council and class officers are the
governing leader who assist the administration in developing and producing
a social calendar for our student body. Students produce a yearbook, a
monthly newspaper and a literary magazine. Many are involved in theatrical
productions, foreign language competitions, math and science leagues and
various art exhibitions.
Faculty
There are 63 members of the
professional staff including teachers, counselors, a media specialist and
special educators. Four full-time counselors and a student assistance
counselor compromise the guidance staff. Sixty-one percent of the faculty hold
advanced degrees.
Student
Achievement
Beginning with the class of
1998, Glen Ridge
High School no longer
calculates numerical rank. The academic environment at Glen

is very challenging. The majority of our students meet the challenge and
earn high grades.
