Unapproved November Meeting Minutes
November 16, 2007
Officers Present: Tania Liddy, President, Laura Buchmann, Treasurer, Jennifer Schmitt, Secretary
Tania Liddy called the meeting to order at 8:45 AM.
Principals Report: Mr. Philips thanked the RAHSA for the breakfast and meals during National Education week. He reported that 90 children participated in the Talent Show, report cards had gone out and Ms Dutton held the Adoption Awareness Week breakfast. Upcoming events include: the 3rd and 4th grades had Thanksgiving activities the week of the holiday, the Holiday store will occur the week after Thanksgiving; and Gas Lamp’s production of Footloose is this week-end. He mentioned that a letter went home to all parents under “Meghan’s Law” regarding a 3rd tier offender that has moved within a few miles of the school. He mentioned that he and Mr. Donovan have been talking to classes individually about safe habits and being wary of strangers. Mr. Philips also mentioned 5 staff members had received Education Grants for the GREF. They include: Mrs. LoBue, Ms Saxon, Mr. Philips, Ms Torella and Ms__________.
Teachers Report: Ms Torella thanks the RAHSA for the delightful and thoughtful breakfast and lunches during National Education Week.
Board of Education Report:
SCRIP: Julie Mason reported that Holiday SCRIP is still available to purchase. They have $27,000 in orders so far which is unfortunately lower than last year.
Treasurer’s Report: Laura Buchman reported that she had paid for many Holiday store items but the store has not opened yet, so it shows a loss on this month’s report. The available funds are $14798.
President’s Report: Tania Liddy thanked the following parents for their help and hard work: Joe Baione for the benches he built and installed in the front yard of the school; the Social Committee for putting together Pizza and a Movie night which was a great success; the parents who donated refreshments for the Talent Show; Shari Dreier and the Sidoti Family for the RAS Directory; Tracey St Auburn for the recent Newsletter; Julie Mason for co-coordinating food for National Education Week; and Meghan Guilianeli for all the recent photos that have made it into the local papers. She reported that the Holiday Store prep was underway and it would be opening next week. She mentioned that Heidi Donohue, who is moving to North Carolina, is vacating the position of first Vice President. The term is up this June and Ms Liddy is looking for her replacement. There is still talk of a Spring Social and they are looking for ideas for any money raised from the event. Mr. Philips has mentioned an inner courtyard that is an eyesore. It is” landlocked” and not useable by students of staff, but visible from classrooms. He would like to renovate the area. The date for any social event may be March or April. Kathy Wiesenberger said she would explore possible venues. Also upcoming is "Bring a Vet to School" Day on Nov 29th, and the Ice Skating Social on January 6th. She also mentioned adopting a “funds request” form modeled on Forest Ave HSA’s.
Julie Mason made a motion to approve the October meeting minutes and Karen McGinn seconded. All were in favor. Kathy Wiesenberger made a motion to use the surplus from last year’s 6ht grade promotion to purchase a new Rhino costume for the school. Tracey St Auburn seconded and all were in favor.
MAC: Kathy Wiesenberger reported that the upcoming skating social was going to include 5, 6 and 7 grades this one time. The Parent Lecture series is being planned. There will be an Internet Safety Presentation in January. She hoped to have a more complete schedule at our January meeting.
Logo Magnets: Caris Drury reported that 7 sold this week alone!
Karen McGinn made a motion to adjourn and Kathy Wiesenberger seconded at 9:32 AM.
