Director of Student Activities

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.      Valid New Jersey Supervisor Certificate* or eligibility

2.      Minimum experience as determined by the board

3.      Demonstrated leadership in the organization and administration of a district-level co-curricular and athletic program

4.      Ability to maintain a positive learning environment and high standards of conduct for students and professional staff

5.      Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent/Principal

 

SUPERVISES:

Coaches, Athletic Trainers, Activity Advisory

 

JOB GOAL:

To provide leadership in the development, implementation and coordination of the district's athletic and co-curricular programs in order to provide students with the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of various students activities in addition to sports and the principles of fair play and self-responsibility.

 

PERFORMANCE
RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Organizes and administers the district's program of co-curricular activities and assumes responsibility for the scheduling of all co-curricular activities, intramural and interscholastic athletic events.
  2. Assumes responsibility for the management of the school in accordance with law, administrative code and Board policies and regulations.
  3. Provides leadership in the selection, assignment and evaluation of athletic coaches, trainers and activity advisors.
  4. Plans, organizes and supervises all co-curricular events.
  5. conducts periodic observations and evaluations of teaching and coaching staff, and activity advisors; prepares written comments; and offers constructive suggestions for improvement when appropriate.
  6. Assumes responsibility for the proper supervision of student productions, home games and the availability of game officials, team physicians and security and supervision personnel.
  7. Arranges for the transportation for athletic competitions and co-curricular activities.
  8. Develops and implements appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities and ensures compliance with the rules promulgated by the NJSIAA and all other governing athletic organizations.
  9. Verifies each athlete's eligibility according to established physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport and obtains written parent permission for students to participate.

10.     Prepares and administers the athletic and co-curricular program budgets and requisitions program supplies and equipment.

11.     Conducts classroom observations and annual performance evaluations of all district physical education staff and other faculty as required.

12.     Supervise all ticket sales and fundraising events of the co-curricular and athletic programs and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds.

13.     Arranges field and gym practice schedules, as well as district facility use for all student activities.

14.     Supervises the care, maintenance and storage of all athletic and student activity equipment and supplies and maintains a current inventory.

15.     Arranges for the physical examination of all athletes prior to each season.

16.     Administers athletic study halls and physical education exemptions.

17.     Maintains records of athletic contests and award winners and plans and supervises an annual recognition program for athletes.

18.     Promotes good school-community relations and support through effective communication regarding the district's athletic and co-curicular programs.

19.     Serves as liaison between GRHS and The Glen Ridge Booster Club, Music Parents, etc., and other parent organizations.

20.     Participates in all fire and emergency drills as required by law and Board policy.

21.     Prepares or supervises the preparation of all reports, records and other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration and State organizations.

22.     Keeps the Superintendent, principal, staff and students informed of all school activities by publishing a weekly bulletin listing all activities.

23.     Develops/maintains a master building schedule for the academic and co-curricular programs, and works with the Business Administrator to schedule community use of the school building and grounds.

24.     Along with the Principal, attends special events to recognize student achievement and other school sponsored acivities and functions.

25.     Assumes responsibility for his/her continuing professional development by attendance at professional meetings, memberships in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses and by reading professional journals and other publications.

26.     Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.

27.     Performs other duties which may be within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned.

 

TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education. (12 month position)

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of certified staff.
